UBC's tuition framework

In January 2002, when the provincial government restored to university Boards of Governors the authority to set tuition fees, the University of British Columbia introduced a three-year strategy of tuition fee increases based on quality improvements required, peer comparators, market, and costs.

In January 2005, the provincial government indicated in the Speech from the Throne that tuition increases at provincial post-secondary institutions would be limited to cost of living. The Ministry of Advanced Education has limited tuition fee increase to 2% for 2012/13.

The UBC Board of Governors will be considering the 2012/13 tuition and fee proposals for at its meeting on at its meeting on April 3, 2012.

In developing the tuition proposal for 2012/13, the University administration is guided by:

 

The University and the University Presidents' Council are working with the provincial government to clarify the parameters for changes to tuition for 2011/12.
