While it's important new students have the opportunity to orientate themselves to UBC before they start school, it's equally as important their parents have the opportunity to get to know the university and what their students have in store for them as well.
Parent orientation does just that.
By attending parent orientation, you will get the information and resources you need to continue supporting your student as they enter this next phase of their life.
The orientation you should attend is dependent on your student.Orientation is the perfect way for both students and parents to get their UBC experience off to a great start. Parent Orientation is designed for parents or guardians of new-to-UBC students, and is divided into three programs:

Residence Parent Orientation on Sunday, September 2: Join us to learn more about the opportunities, resources, programs, and support available in UBC residences, and how these can enhance your student's university experience.
You'll have a chance to hear about the first-year residence experience and meet the Place Vanier and Totem Park Residence Life Managers, as well as the senior staff from UBC Housing, Food Services, Student Health Service, and Student Development.
Commuter Student Parent Orientation on Sunday, Septmeber 22: Join us to learn more about the resources, programs, and student life at UBC, so that you can support your student as they begin their exciting undergraduate experience. It's also a chance to hear about the first-year UBC experience from current students and staff.
The orientation session will focus on the commuter student experience and will provide strategies for a successful transition from high school to university.
Two sessions will be presented concurrently: one in Mandarin and one in English. There will be an optional campus tour following the orientation, facilitated in English
Jump Start is a first year transition program that all new international and Aboriginal students entering their first year at UBC should attend. If your student is attending Jump Start, you are invited to join:
Parent Reception on Thursday August 16th: Attend this reception to get the opportunity to meet UBC staff and faculty and other parents with students participating in Jump Start.
Parent Workshop on Friday August 17th: Attend this workshop to discuss the changing relationship between new university students and their parents, as they enter this new phase of their life.
Parent Reception and Workshop on Sunday September 2nd: Join us for this condensed social reception with staff, faculty and other parents followed by a workshop to discuss the changing relationship between new university students and their parents, as they enter this new phase of their life.
Please explore the information for parents about student orientation programming. Discuss the programs with your son or daughter and encourage them to attend these important information sessions..
The Parent Orientation program is an excellent way of helping parents cope with the challenges that a new student at UBC will face in their transition from high school life to university life. Keep up the good work!
