Employment for students

At UBC, we encourage students to get involved both on and off campus by joining clubs, volunteering, attending conferences, and finding employment.

Getting work experience early in their university career not only helps students with their job search after graduation, but also enables them to make better decisions while they are still in university, such as declaring a major. Students should take advantage of the many opportunities at UBC that will help them begin building a career before they graduate.

The following resources are available to students:

  • UBC Career Services – Career experts help students with career decision-making and job searching.
  • AMS Connect – Internship and volunteer opportunities are available to students.
  • Counselling Services – Counsellors are on hand to help students overcome barriers and develop career strategies.
  • Faculty-specific career services – Some faculties offer their own employment and career services.
  • International Student Advisors – Advisors can help students with their work permits, Social Insurance Numbers (SIN), and other issues related to working in Canada.
  • Cooperative Education – Co-op students alternate study terms and work terms in appropriate fields of business, industry, government, social services and the professions that offer suitable learning situations. The student's progress is monitored by the Co-operative Education office and their performance on the job is evaluated by the student's employer.
