Documenting illness for academic concession

If psychological difficulties or physical illness have affected your academic performance or you require an academic concession, your professor may ask for a Certificate of Illness or a letter from your treating doctor or counsellor.

Your mental or physical health problem can be documented only by your treating health professional, whether that is a counsellor or a psychologist at Counselling Services, a Student Health Service physician, or a private physician or mental health professional. UBC counsellors, psychologists, and physicians can document only psychological difficulty and physical illness that have been observed and/or treated by UBC counsellors, psychologists, physicians, or nurses.

To obtain a letter or medical certificate, please speak to your treating health professional.
