Applying for an initial study permit

Most newly accepted international students will apply for study permits in their home country before travelling to UBC.  In most cases, you must apply for your initial study permit outside of Canada.

Once you have received your letter of acceptance from UBC, you can begin the process of applying for your initial study permit.  You will apply for your study permit at the Canadian Embassy or Consulate outside of Canada that serves you.  A list of visa offices can be found on the CIC website

Instructions for submitting your initial study permit can be found on the Studying in Canada section of the CIC website.  You also need to check the specific website of the Canadian Embassy or Consulate that you will be applying to.  Sometimes, the Canadian Embassy or Consulate requires additional documents and forms.  If you have just been accepted to UBC, please visit our pre-arrival site for information on preparing to come to UBC.
