Financial assistance, scholarships & awards
- As an international student, you are eligible for scholarships and awards based on academic merit.
- You are not eligible for financial assistance such as Canada student loans, UBC bursaries, or Work Study placements.
- Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) requires international students to have sufficient funds for tuition and living costs; therefore, students are expected to be able to support themselves.
- International undergraduate students may receive a work placement as part of the Work Learn program.

- Non-US students can contact their home government or the Canadian government about possible financial assistance programs.
- US students can apply for student loans from the United States.
- If you have received a scholarship or award from UBC, Canada Revenue Agency requires that you have either a Social Insurance Number (SIN) or an Individual Tax Number (ITN) for tax purposes. For more information, consult the Taxes web page.
