Financial assistance, scholarships & awards

  • As an international student, you are eligible for scholarships and awards based on academic merit.
  • You are not eligible for financial assistance such as Canada student loans, UBC bursaries, or Work Study placements.
  • Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) requires international students to have sufficient funds for tuition and living costs; therefore, students are expected to be able to support themselves.
  • International undergraduate students may receive a work placement as part of the Work Learn program.
  • To calculate your tuition cost for UBC, please consult the online budget calculator.
  • Non-US students can contact their home government or the Canadian government about possible financial assistance programs.
  • US students can apply for student loans from the United States.
  • If you have received a scholarship or award from UBC, Canada Revenue Agency requires that you have either a Social Insurance Number (SIN) or an Individual Tax Number (ITN) for tax purposes. For more information, consult the Taxes web page.
