Tips for academic success

- If you have a hard time adjusting to UBC’s academic culture, speak with your faculty/department academic advisors, the Go Global advisors, or an International Student Advisor.
- Get to know people in your classes. Study together and share notes.
- Understand due dates and requirements of assignments and exams. Write your deadlines on a calendar.
- Use campus learning resources, such as The UBC Learning Commons, the UBC Writing Centre, the Student Success Study and Research workshops, the Mathematics and Statistics Resource Centre (MSRC) drop-in tutorials, and the Library website.
- Talk to your professor when you have questions about course material or assignments. This will save you time and frustration.
- Learn the basics of academic integrity and plagiarism by visiting the Library’s Plagiarism Resource Centre for Students.
- Participate in social and recreational activities at I. House. Having a strong community of support can help you succeed academically.
- Be prepared for a small drop in your grades. This happens to most students in their first year.
- Make sure you begin working on your essays several weeks in advance.
