We are pleased to introduce our staff members for the Global Lounge
David Yuen - Programming Committee
globallounge6@exchange.ubc.ca

Hi, my name is David Yuen and I'm in my 5th year at UBC majoring in International Relations in the Faculty of Arts. I was first a Global Lounge Assistant back in January, and I'm excited to return to help coordinate the Programming committee (after completing a summer Co-op term with International Student Development). I've previously worked at the Centre for Student Involvement, a space that is similarly student-driven yet uniquely different to the Global Lounge. For the past three years I've also been involved with World Vision UBC, which helped foster my interest in issues of third world poverty. The Global Lounge, as a space that engages students in globally-focused dialogue and collaboration, continues to inspire me both academically and personally.
Jennine (Francheska) Punzalan - Marketing Committee
globallounge3@exchange.ubc.ca

I'm Jennine Punzalan (but I'll be called Francheska by the GL team- it's my middle name), and I'm going into my 2nd Year in Arts. I hope to be able to double major in Political Science and International Relations. I'm currently Artistic Coordinator for the Student Leadership Conference and a Senior Peer for the International Peer Program. I chose the Global Lounge because I have great memories of the place, and I'd love for more students to know about it as well!
Adi Burton - Global Fund Committee
globallounge1@exchange.ubc.ca

My name is Adi Burton and I am a fourth-year Interdisciplinary Studies student with a focus in Philosophy. This year, I am continuing as president of STAND UBC, a national, student-run organization that engages students in political advocacy concerning genocide (most specifically in Darfur, Sudan and the DR Congo). I am also involved in Hillel Vancouver and the Israel Awareness Club. I am excited to continue building a community for global issues at the Global Lounge -- now as a staff member! As the Global Lounge continues to define itself as a place of dialogue and collaboration at UBC, it is both enlightening and engaging to be involved from different sides of the desk. I am also eager to work on the Global Fund committee, which will facilitate many excellent and promising student initiatives in the future.
Jesse Maruti - Marketing Committee
globallounge2@exchange.ubc.ca

My name is Jesse Maruti. I am a third year student in the Sauder School of Business, pursuing a double major in Marketing and Transportation and Logistics. I am currently involved with UBC Africa Awareness Initiative club as the VP Marketing. I look forward to working at the Global Lounge because I seek to contribute to making the space into one where all students, regardless of nationality or race, can come and connect with the rest of the world.
Alex Pysklywec - Professional Development Committee
globallounge4@exchange.ubc.ca

My name is Alex Pysklywec. I am a fourth year Human Geography student with a minor in Anthropology. I love learning about people, places, life stories, life ways, and world views. I am originally from Calgary, Alberta, but I moved out to the coast for the first time about ten years ago. I later went travelling in Mexico, Central and South America. Along the way I met and married my life partner, Sergio. We lived in Mexico for a few years, and we then decided to return to Canada so that I could finish my degree (this coming April!! YAY!!). I am also heading into my third year here at the Global Lounge (thanks Jola!) and I am super excited about it. I will be working closely with Lauren, and a team of dedicated network members on the Professional Development Committee. We have lots of new ideas for the creation and delivery of PD programs at the GL.
Lauren Schock - Professional Development Committee
globallounge5@exchange.ubc.ca

Hi! My name is Lauren Schock, and I’m a 4th year dietetics student in Land and Food Systems. I have worked as an assistant in a law office, and am currently an executive member of Medecins sans Frontieres UBC. I’m delighted to be a part of the Global Lounge team this year to see what amazing conversations and actions will transpire from the students who walk in our doors!
