Eligibility

Holding lettuce.Below is a list of general requirements to participate in an International Service Learning (ISL) program. 

In addition to the following criteria, please consult the eligibility requirements of each program.  Please speak to an advisor prior to applying if you require academic or other accommodations abroad.

To participate in an International Service Learning program, you must:

  • Be a student in good standing
  • Be eligible for a visa to the country where the program will take place
  • Be 18 years of age or older at the time of your international placement (students under 18 will require parental consent to participate in our programs)
  • Have completed at least one term of study at UBC prior to your departure
  • Be available for and committed to the entirety of the program including learning sessions taking place before, during, and after your international placement
  • Priority will be given to students who are returning to UBC for at least one term of study after their placement
