Can I afford to go?

Program-specific costs

Each group study program has its own unique fee; this information is available on the program page

  • Remember that most program fees are in addition to UBC tuition
  • Check what is included in the program fee to budget accordingly: some include accommodation, meals and local transportation, while others may not

It’s not as expensive as you might think!

  • Go Global offers many International Learning Awards to help make your experience more affordable
  • Go Global students remain registered at UBC - you will still be eligible for scholarships, awards, bursaries, and student loans. This includes affiliation scholarships, and faculty- or department-specific awards. Be sure to check out these options on the Awards, Fees & Finances website
  • Research the cost of living of your potential host country – it may be less than living in Vancouver

How much does it really cost?

Prospective Go Global students often ask us how much money they should bring while they’re away.

Because your financial requirements will vary depending on your individual goals, the cost of living in your host country, and your personal preferences, we are not able to provide you with an exact amount that you should be prepared to spend. Only you can determine how much money you will need while you’re away.

Some initial steps you can take to prepare a budget for your international learning experience:

  • Read student reports and connect with returned Go Global students and ask them about how much it costs for day-to-day expenses like food, laundry, transportation, and coffee.
  • Search travel guides and the web.
  • Think about the type of lifestyle you prefer. What are your spending habits at home? Will the same apply abroad? If you want to explore the region you’ll be in, will you prefer to travel by bus? By train? First class? Consider contacting a travel agent to help you determine some of those costs in advance.
