Learning abroad

A student studying abroad

Interested in participating in an international learning program? Here are a few of many great reasons to apply to Go Global:

  1. Our international learning programs foster personal development, global awareness, meaningful engagement, and cross-cultural understanding
  2. International learning programs are not merely opportunities to travel; experience life in a host country as a student, not just as a tourist
  3. Take your education out of the classroom and give it an international context
  4. Our Exchange program allows you to attend any of UBC's prestigious 150 partner universities, where you can take courses related to your degree that may not be offered at UBC
  5. Our International Service Learning programs offer hands-on experience with international development issues
  6. As shown in our Student Reports, the majority of past participants rate their experience positively, citing it as “A once in a lifetime opportunity,” “A great experience,” or “Don't graduate without going on exchange!”

More affordable than you think

Interested in our programs, but worried about the cost? Go Global programs are supported by a wide range of International Learning Awards. Students considering an International Service Learning program can also take advantage of fundraising opportunities.

While you're participating in any Go Global program, you remain a UBC student and in most cases are eligible for UBC awards, scholarships, and financial assistance. This includes student loans, affiliation scholarships, and faculty- or department-specific awards. Be sure to check out other options on the Awards, Fees & Finances website.

Keep in mind that the cost of living in some of the regions you’re considering may be lower than staying in Vancouver. Our Study Abroad sections will help you put together a budget that works for you and your needs.

We occasionally offer information sessions on financing your Go Global program, led by Student Financial Assistance & Awards.
