Step 1
|
Send us your course selections by June 10
Go Global will register you in your classes when registration opens in mid-June (law students will be registered in mid-July). In order for us to do this, please send us your course selections by June 10. Your course timetable can be viewed at the Student Service Centre (SSC) after you have been registered.
If we do not receive your CSF by the deadline, you may be required to register in courses upon arrival in September. Many courses will already be full at this time.
|
Step 2
|
Read the International Student Handbook
The challenge of living in a new environment, socializing in a new culture, and studying on a new campus is exhilarating, but even the most adventurous students can use some help from time to time. This online handbook aims to do just that – provide you with helpful guidance on everything from health insurance to exams to meeting people.
|
Step 3
|
Register for GALA – International Orientation
GALA is UBC's comprehensive three-day international student orientation, which runs from September 1–3, 2011. Plan to arrive in Vancouver no later than Wednesday, August 31 in order to attend. Online registration opens in July 2011.
If you have been admitted as a graduate student, you are encouraged to register for the Graduate Student Orientation, as GALA is intended primarily for undergraduate students.
|
Step 4
|
Pay your iMED and U-Pass fees
The easiest way to pay your iMED and U-Pass fees is by Visa or MasterCard on the SSC. Once you've logged in, select MyFinancial Account. For alternate methods to pay your fees, please visit Awards, Fees & Finances. Fees will not appear on the SSC until you have been registered in your first class.
The SSC lists the due dates for your fees. If fees are not paid on time, your account will be placed on financial hold and charged a $30 processing fee, plus interest. You will be unable to make any registration changes, and we will be unable to issue your academic transcript.
|
Step 5
|
Accept your housing offer
Once you have been accepted to the exchange program, UBC Housing and Conferences will begin to process your application and will email you an Offer of Assignment. You must accept the offer and make any necessary payments by the deadline.*
The front counters at on-campus residences are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week for arrival and check-in.
*Please note: if you know your payment will not arrive by the designated due date, email information@housing.ubc.ca to advise UBC.
|
Step 6
|
Apply for Early Arrival Housing by July 15
If you have accepted a room in one of the UBC residence halls and plan to arrive earlier than September 5, 2011, you are eligible to apply for Early Arrival Residence.
For more information on early arrival costs, terms, conditions, and online application (available mid-June), visit the Housing and Conferences website or email summer@housing.ubc.ca.
Off-campus housing
If you choose to live off campus, you are strongly advised to arrive at least two weeks before the start of classes to find a place to live. Please ensure you have a temporary place to stay until you find permanent accommodation. Students who do not make arrangements before they arrive may end up paying premium rates at a hotel, up to several hundred dollars per night during August and December. The Jericho Youth Hostel is an affordable option that's close to campus.
Other on- and off-campus housing options are discussed on the Housing website. For more information, please see the housing section of the International Student Handbook.
|
Step 7
|
Update your address
Go Global and UBC Housing will use email as our primary means of communicating with you, so please inform us if your email address changes. The email address we currently have on file is printed on your Go Global letter of acceptance. If you use Hotmail or Yahoo!, please add the following email addresses to your contacts or safe lists:

Step 8
|
Apply for your Study Permit and/or Temporary Resident Visa (if required)

Use your letter of acceptance to apply. For detailed information on immigration issues, please see the International Student Handbook. |
Step 1
|
Submit your course selections by June 10
Go Global will register you in your classes once we receive your course selections. As UBC course registration opens in mid-June, the sooner we receive your selections, the more likely it is that we can register you in the courses you have requested.
Your course timetable can be viewed at the Student Service Centre (SSC) after you have been registered.
