Academic year at UBC

Exchange students attend UBC during the Winter Session (September to April). 

Winter Session consists of two terms: Term 1 (early September to late December) and Term 2 (early January to late April).

During the Winter Session classes are held both during the day and in the evening.

  • Some exchange students attend UBC for one Winter Session term only. Students from the southern hemisphere may begin their exchange year in Term 2 (January).
  • Some UBC courses span both Winter Session terms (September to April). This means that students who will be at UBC for only one term cannot register for these courses. These courses are usually 6 credits.
