Students with external scholarships

An external award is any award or bursary where the recipient is chosen by an outside organization or individual. External awards are not administered by UBC, but if your donor chooses to send your award cheque directly to UBC, the below information will assist you.

Am I eligible?

To maintain awards or bursaries, you must normally meet the enrolment requirements of UBC’s Senate Regulations: enrolment in a minimum of 24 credits for a scholarship or 60% of a full-time course load for a bursary. If you don’t qualify under Senate Regulations, UBC will contact your donor to determine your eligibility under their criteria.

How will I receive my funding?

Once UBC receives your cheque, it usually takes three to four weeks to process before funds are applied to your account. When planning your finances, it’s important to be aware of this timeline.

Funds will cover outstanding tuition and student fees. Any remaining balance will be issued to you as a cheque.

Where should I send my cheque?

To ensure fast processing, please forward cheques directly to the UBC Development Office:

UBC Development Office
500–5950 University Boulevard
Vancouver, BC  V6T 1Z3
Attn: awards clerk

Who issues my T4A?

UBC will issue your T4A tax form in February of the following year.

Where can I find external awards?

You can search Scholarships Canada and Student Awards.
