Affiliation bursaries

In addition to financial need, affiliation bursaries require a connection to a specific club, trade union, company, geographic region, or demographic group.

Am I eligible?

Each bursary has different requirements – see the award descriptions listed on the application.

You must also demonstrate financial need by answering all questions in the application. Only Canadian citizens and permanent residents are eligible.

Students from other post-secondary institutions

Certain bursaries are open to students at other British Columbia universities and colleges. Please carefully read the descriptions listed on the application to determine your eligibility.

How do I apply?

Each year applications are posted in March and are due at the end of May. UBC Vancouver students and applicants from other BC educational institutions should submit the completed application to Student Financial Assistance & Awards.

Completed applications are due by 4:00 PM, May 31. All applicants will be notified by mid-July.

UBC Okanagan students must complete a separate application.

Tips for all applicants:

  • Check the awards you want to be considered for and make sure you explain your qualifications for each award.
  • Submit documentation as required – some affiliation bursaries require additional documents.
  • Answer all questions on the application – we are not be able to assess incomplete applications.

Affiliation scholarships

In addition to academic merit, affiliation scholarships usually require a connection to a specific club, trade union, company, geographic region, or demographic group.

Am I eligible?

Each scholarship has different requirements – see the award descriptions listed on the application.

You must also meet the terms for awards eligibility set out in the UBC Senate Regulations.

To be eligible students must:

  • have registered in at least 27 percentage-graded credits in the prior academic year
  • have an average of at least 75% (with no failed or incomplete courses)
  • be registered in at least 24 credits in the upcoming academic year
Courses taken in pass/fail or Credit/D/Fail format will not be taken into account except for DMD and MD students

Please note: unclassified and qualifying programs are not eligible for these awards.

Students from other post-secondary institutions

Certain awards are open to students at other British Columbia universities and colleges. Please read award descriptions carefully to determine your eligibility. Students from other institutions must provide an official transcript of their last period of full-time study and have been registered in at least 90% of a full-time course load at their institution during the previous winter session.

  • Some affiliation scholarships require additional documents to establish eligibility. If an award requires documentation and you do not submit it, you will not be considered for the award.
  • If the award description does not specifically call for extra documents, then no documentation is required.
