Student loans

Student loans are offered by the Canadian and US governments to help students pay for their post-secondary education.

Government student loans take into consideration many factors, including:

  • income and assets
  • tuition, mandatory fees, and books
  • living expenses

How to apply

Canadian students (including permanent residents, landed immigrants, and protected persons as designated under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act) apply through their home province or territory:

Students from the US must apply for loans through the US government.

Dual citizens (students who have both Canadian and US citizenship) can apply for loans through both the US and Canadian governments.
