Types of financial support

Scholarships & awards
Scholarships for both entering and continuing Education students are administered by the Faculty of Education. Education students may also apply for:
Bursaries
Education students are encouraged to apply for the UBC General Bursary program as another type of financial support. Check out the bursary eligibility criteria before you apply.
Students in the 12-month program:
- Your program is eligible for a limited number of bursaries and therefore your full unmet need may not be filled.
- If you receive a bursary through the Winter Bursary program, you will not be eligible for more assistance in the Summer Bursary program as your unmet need will have already been considered for the full year.
Student loans
Government student loans are available to help supplement your own financial resources. It is important to note, however, that these loans will not be enough to cover all your costs for the BEd program.
If you are in the 12-month program:
Your student loan will be disbursed in two unequal instalments. Check your loan assessment for exact amounts and disbursement dates. Your loan disbursement dates will not match your tuition due dates, so make sure to plan ahead.
If you are in the 2-year program:
Your loans will disburse in September and January. You will receive a larger loan amount in September than you will in January. Check your loan assessment for your exact amounts and disbursements dates and plan ahead.
Other funding
To complete their budgets, Education students may want to research the option of a student line of credit.
To apply for a student line of credit, please enquire at any private bank. To prove your student status, you will need to bring your Letter of Acceptance from UBC or your Proof of Enrolment letter, which you can download from your SSC account.

Work opportunities
Students should recognize that the BEd program involves an intense course load, and finding time to work may be difficult. A Work Study position may be your best option if you choose to work during your studies.
Work study
Work Study provides on-campus employment opportunities for full-time domestic students and is a great way to gain additional income during the academic year without having to work a lot of hours. Check out the full program details and job postings.
Other part-time work
Contact UBC Career Services for information about other part-time jobs available on and off campus.
