  1. What you should do in this circumstance depends on what stage of the loan process you are in, and which province’s loan program you applied for.

  2. The amount you will receive in student loan funding is based on your government-assessed financial need. This assessment takes into account your savings, income, assets, scholarships, and, if you are a dependent student, your parents’ financial situation.     US Students should review our information regarding loans for US students to find out how much funding they may be eligible to receive.

  3. You will not pay interest on your student loans if you return to full-time study within six months of your last date of full-time study. However, you must inform your lender(s) once you return to full-time study. For more information, please review our information regarding students with previous loans.

    If you borrowed a type of funding on which you pay interest even while studying full-time (e.g., all funding for US students, except for subsidized Stafford funding), you will continue to pay interest until the loan is paid off.

    If you borrowed a part-time Canada Student Loan, you will pay interest from the date you cashed the loan, regardless of your student status, until the loan is paid off.

  4. Canadian students can expect to wait four to six weeks for their provincial loan program to process their loan application or reassessment request.

    US Students should contact us for an estimated processing time line of their US loan application.
