Band sponsorship

If you're an Aboriginal student and are thinking about how to finance your education, you might consider band funding. Depending on your band, sponsorship can cover some costs and not others.

Third-party billing

One common type of sponsorship is band funding for tuition (Third-Party Billing). It’s a process between your band office and UBC Enrolment Services, not to be confused with the Student Financial Assistance & Awards office.

If you're considering band sponsorship, always be aware of deadlines for your band office and UBC Enrolment Services. For more information, read the Third-party Billing section on the Courses & Registration website or download the Sponsorship/Third-party Billing Form.

If you're already receiving band sponsorship, learn more about the type of sponsorship you're receiving and any restrictions on it.

Questions for your band

For example, if you are receiving band funding for four years of on-campus housing, one question to ask your band is whether you could still be funded if you chose to live off-campus.

Or, if you are participating in a co-op program and need an additional year to finish your degree, one question to ask your band is whether they would be willing to fund your fifth and last year, or would this make you ineligible for continued sponsorship?

If band funding isn’t enough to cover all your costs, consider other types of financial support.
