The Global Citizenship Project (GCP) took place from January–May 2004 to further dialogues stimulated by the University President's commitment to "building global citizenship" declared at the 2002 Global Citizenship Conference:
"Our goal must be to educate global citizens who see themselves not simply as citizens of a local region, but also as human beings bound to other human beings in ties of concern and understanding" (Martha Piper, UBC President).
The purposes of the project were to engage students and alumni in discussions on the notion of "global citizenship" so that there would be significant student input into the understanding of this concept within the university and to ensure student and alumni contributions were incorporated into the University's Trek 2010 strategic plan. The project was supported by the Office of Vice-President, Students. The project is now over and presented here as a historical information. If you would like to be involved in global citizenship activities on campus, check "useful links" section in the menu on the left.
