Access & Diversity
Access and Diversity works with UBC to create an inclusive living and learning environment in which all students can thrive. We work to eliminate structural and attitudinal barriers based on disability, race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender identity. We arrange disability-related accommodations to promote academic and professional success.
We prepare in advance of each interaction with you to ensure that you are aware of services and resources available. We communicate in a timely and transparent manner, and we actively solicit feedback in order to optimize service. Our staff follows recognized best practices and maintains a high level of professional expertise in working with and for our communities.
Career Services
Career Services will model the level of professionalism that our community partners expect from students and alumni. We promise to be accessible and approachable by providing you with timely, same-day service for resume reviews as well as online resources that you can use around the clock. Our physical space will be welcoming, inclusive and student-focused.
By building meaningful connections with employers, the external community and our campus partners, we will strive to be a hub of expertise for career information, experiential learning and recruitment best practices.
Centre for Student Involvement & Student Development
We operate from a philosophy of “for students, with students, through students”. When you visit us at the CSI, the welcome desk will be your first point of contact. When you come to us to get involved we will connect you to the person overseeing the program you are interested in. We will provide the opportunity for at least one student to sit on every committee or work team involved in Student Development initiatives.
If the involvement opportunity you’re looking for isn’t in the CSI, we will follow our CSI Referral Promise. When you seek directions we will try to walk you there personally in Brock Hall or will show you using UBC Wayfinding or a campus map.
As Student Affairs Professionals, we will stay informed regarding latest research that impacts your student experience. This research and your input will be a driving force in our decision-making, and we will share our end-of-term report card about our service quality to you.
Classroom Services
Classroom Services is here to help. We will be clear on our timelines and processes and do what we can meet your needs. We will work to create exam schedules with the fewest conflicts and hardships, and will work with faculties to create useful course schedules. We will do our best to ensure that study and social spaces are comfortable, accessible and well-equipped, and will respond personally to your questions or concerns.
We will keep our information up-to-date and provide you with reliable resources when we cannot help you ourselves. If we make a mistake, we will do everything we can to rectify it. We promise to communicate with clarity, consistency and respect, and to be open, professional, and courteous in all our interactions with you.
Counselling Services
Counselling Services provides a wide range of confidential services to UBC students. We strive to honour the broad range of student diversity in a sensitive and responsive manner. We provide initial consultation appointments on a drop-in basis. For urgent concerns, appointments are available throughout the day.
During your initial consultation, we will talk with you to assess the nature and urgency of your concerns and provide a referral to the most appropriate services and resources. Depending on your needs, we may refer you to one of our group programs (such as a depression or anxiety group), services in the community, on campus, or to one of our short-term individual counselling programs.
International Student Development & Go Global
Both ISD and Go Global understand that providing excellent student service is key to meeting our departmental goals of fostering student success, promoting global awareness and meaningful engagement, and cultivating cross-cultural understanding and learning opportunities.
We promise to provide the most up-to-date and accurate information on all relevant topics, from Canadian immigration to opportunities for learning abroad. We will do this by keeping good communication records and tracking changes to key information by working closely with external partners, such as Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and partner universities abroad. We will continue to provide comprehensive advising and responsive services that seek to support the whole student regardless of your physical location in the world.
Student Financial Assistance & Awards
At Student Financial Assistance & Awards we are about more than student loans. We are your source for information and support in all aspects of your financial life at UBC. We understand that you have unique circumstances, and we will take the time to listen, clearly identify the nature of your issue or concern, and respond appropriately.
We provide one-on-one financial advising appointments, we engage the student body to promote financial literacy, and we strive to deliver our programs efficiently and transparently. When we discuss your financial situation with you, we will respect your privacy and be approachable, fair and consistent.
Student Health
At Student Health we promise to work with you to enhance your health and well-being by providing and promoting high-quality and accessible health care resources. We provide a wide range of prevention, treatment, and education options.
We promise to deliver our service personally and electronically in an interactive and innovative approach to meet your individual needs. We will respect your privacy, maintain confidentiality, and work with you as an active partner in your health care.
Student Information Services
Student service is our highest priority. We are specially trained and committed to providing one-stop service and support to you at every stage of your academic journey. We also answer inquiries from faculty, staff and guests to campus.
We promise to make your interaction an individualized experience and to acknowledge your unique circumstances. We will respond to your phone and email inquiries as quickly as possible and provide updated response times during busy periods. We will acknowledge your inquiry, ask the right questions, and help you find what you need to make the most of your university experience. We will listen and respond to your feedback, and act on it in a timely and transparent fashion.
Student Recruitment & Advising
We are committed to providing prospective students and their families with a friendly and informative experience when they connect with the UBC Welcome Centre, either in person or off-campus.
We understand that choosing a university is no small decision, and our team will ensure your unique situation is dealt with in a positive and personal manner. We are often the first contact point for anyone interested in UBC, so no matter what your question, you have come to the right place.
Undergraduate Admissions
The Undergraduate Admissions office will take the time to understand your personal situation, academic history, and address any application concerns that you may have.
Our goal is to ensure that you receive a timely evaluation, based on a fair and transparent review of all of the academic material we receive related to your application.
