Switching between Credit/D/Fail and percentage grading

Before you register 

  1. Check to see if your program permits you to take courses for Credit/D/Fail by logging in to the course schedule and looking at the page header. If it states the following, you may take eligible elective courses for Credit/D/Fail grading: Credit/D/Fail Grading: Permitted in your program.
  2. Find courses that are eligible to be taken for Credit/D/Fail grading by:
    • Logging in to the course schedule.
    • Browsing courses and reading the course details pages. This is where you will find the courses eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.
    • Or using the "course search" function in the course schedule. Select "Credit/D/Fail grading only" to narrow your results.
  3. Ensure the courses you choose to take for Credit/D/Fail grading are electives in your program of study.
  4. Read the awards implications for taking courses for Credit/D/Fail grading.
  5. Read the Credit/D/Fail grading page, the Policy & information page, and FAQs before switching a course to Credit/D/Fail grading.

How to switch courses to Credit/D/Fail grading 

  1. Register for courses as you normally would.
  2. In the course schedule, navigate to the Add/Drop screen and select "Manage Cr/D/F Courses."
  3. You will see only courses you've registered for that are eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.
  4. Select the course(s) you want to take for Credit/D/Fail grading, up to a maximum of six credits per session and a total of twelve credits towards your degree.
  5. Ensure the course(s) are electives in your program of study.
  6. Click "Switch Selection to Credit/D/Fail Grading."
  7. Navigate back to the Add/Drop screen.
  8. In the "Registered Courses" table you will see a "Y" in the "Taken for Cr/D/F grading" column, beside the courses you switched to Credit/D/Fail grading.

Switch courses back and forth between Credit/D/Fail and percentage grading anytime before the  Course change change & withdrawal dates (Add/Drop deadline).

How to switch back to percentage grading 

Before the add/drop date

  1. Log in to the course schedule and navigate to the Add/Drop screen.
  2. Click "Manage Cr/D/F Courses."
  3. Select the course(s) you'd like to switch back to percentage grading.
  4. Click "Switch Selection to Percentage Grading."

After the add/drop date

Permission to switch between Credit/D/Fail and percentage grading after the add/drop date may only be granted when:

  • your program of study has changed and your new program of study does not allow courses for Credit/D/Fail grading
  • your program of study has changed and a course you took for Credit/D/Fail becomes a requirement in your new program of study
