Participating direct-entry undergraduate programs of study
Some programs have opted out of Credit/D/Fail grading. Students in those programs are not permitted to take courses for Credit/D/Fail. View the list of programs that do not allow their students to take courses for Credit/D/Fail grading on the policy and information page.
Direct-entry programs
Programs that students can enter in their first year of post-secondary education, or declare in their second or third year of study (e.g., Arts or Arts with a major in English Literature and minor in Geography) are considered direct-entry programs. Direct-entry programs do not require previous post-secondary experience or completion of a previous degree. Note that Law, Education, and Medicine are not direct-entry programs.
Program of study
Degree programs and any specializations (e.g., major, minor).
Eligible courses
View the course description pages on the course schedule to view courses eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.
Elective courses
An undergraduate course not required by a student’s program of study as an explicit requirement or as part of a list of courses that fulfill requirements, but may still be counted towards the total number of credits required for that degree program. Plan your course selection on the program requirements page of the Academic Calendar.
Pecentage grades
Courses where a percentage and letter grade are assigned upon completion of course work. Both the percentage grade and letter grade appear on the student grade report and academic transcript.
Standing for Credit/D/Fail
Instead of percentage and letter grades appearing in the Percent and Grade columns on the grades report and academic transcript, one of the following standings will be recorded in the Standing column:
  • Cr will be awarded for a grade of 55% or higher
  • D will be awarded for a grade of 50-54.9%
  • F will be awarded for a grade of less than 50%, where 50% is the passing grade.

Where the passing grade is higher than 50%, (e.g., 60%), only a standing of Cr or F will be awarded.

  • Cr will be awarded for the passing grade and higher
  • F will be awarded up to the passing grade
