Exam Application Information

Approximately twelve weeks before the exam you will receive an email telling you when the exam application will open.

How to apply to write your final exam

  1. Log in to the Student Service Centre.
  2. Go to "Exams" and click "Exam Application".
  3. Select the courses you are applying to write an exam for.
    • You must submit a separate application for each Distance Education course.
  4. Select the exam location from the list.
    • If you reside in the Greater Vancouver Regional District area during the final exam period you will be scheduled to write your exam at the UBC Vancouver campus. Please select Vancouver-UBC from the drop down list.
    • The drop-down list on the application includes exam centres within British Columbia, as well as Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal, and Hong Kong.
    • The date, time, and location of the exam will be arranged by Enrolment Services.
    • Please note that students writing an exam in Hong Kong will be assessed fees at the testing centre.
  5. If you are writing an exam in a location that is not listed, you must provide UBC with an acceptable exam invigilator.
    • You must make arrangements directly with the invigilator to write the exam within two business days of the scheduled exam date.
    • You will not be allowed to write the exam after the scheduled exam date. Exception: AUDI 402 must be written on the scheduled date.
  6. If the location chosen requires a payment, you must pay via the Student Service centre with VISA or MasterCard.
    • Please note that if the location requires payment, you will not be able to complete the application until full payment of $40 is paid online.
  7. After completing the application, click the "Submit Application" button.
  8. You will receive an email with the date and time of your exam once your exam has been scheduled and you can also view your exam schedule on the web via the Student Service Centre.
    • Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that you know where and when your exam is scheduled.

How to view your exam schedule

Your personalized examination information, including date, time, address, and room, will be available on the Student Service Centre under "Exam Schedule". Click the "Exam Application" tab, select the session from the drop down menu and then click "View" beside each exam.

Invigilation information 

Acceptable invigilators in Canada and the United States are University or College administrators or professors, public library staff, or RCMP members. The exam must be written at the invigilator's place of work. Invigilators CANNOT be a friend or family member of the test taker.

Outside of Canada and the United States, we will accept invigilators from Canadian Embassies and Consulates, or the British Council. The invigilator must speak fluent English. You may be asked to provide documentation to prove the person chosen is acceptable.

We require:

  • the individual's full name, personal phone number and email address
  • institution of employment
  • mailing address of the institution (i.e., home addresses and PO boxes are not accepted)

IMPORTANT: It is your responsibility to confirm with the invigilator that you can write the exam with them. UBC will review the invigilator information you input into the system to ensure they are an acceptable candidate. Please note that once you get your exam date, it is your responsibility to ensure that you write the exam at the time scheduled.You will receive this information by email and you must then confirm it with your invigilator.
