Reading Week projects

What are you doing for Reading Week this year?

Why not make a difference in the lives of elementary school students by mentoring them through hands-on learning? Join hundreds of other UBC students by spending some of your Reading Week engaging in fun and meaningful projects where you will learn a lot.

What will I do?

As a participant in a UBC Reading Week project, you could find yourself building model cars with Grade 7 students as a way of exploring basic math concepts. You might construct compost bins to teach students in grades 5 and 6 about recycling and the environment, or work with an astronaut to teach students about teleconferencing and science.

How much time is required?

Projects run from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm for three days during Reading Week, which means you’ll still have time to hit the slopes – or the books.

How do I sign up?

Getting involved is easy and free. All you need to do is:

  • register online (available October/November)
  • attend a half-day orientation session in early February
  • take part in a three-day project

During this year’s Reading Week, get off campus and get involved in your community. Grow your mind and your resume while having fun at the same time.

Can I participate with a student group?

Student groups, clubs, associations, or undergraduate societies are also invited to participate in group projects. To learn more, email us at rw.projects@ubc.ca.
