What qualities do successful projects share?

Successful projects reflect a thoughtful, well-developed, and thoroughly articulated idea that:

  • Reflects a collaborative approach: Work together with a community organization, school, or partner to co-develop a project. If the project is accepted, you will then be primarily responsible for executing it.
  • Contains clear goals: The outcomes of your project align with the organizational goals and priorities of your community partner.
  • Takes an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach: The project is in line with an ABCD approach. For a definition and further details, read What are Asset-based Approaches to Community Development? (829KB PDF), by the International Association of Community Development.
  • Is sustainable: The project will continue to support the community beyond your own involvement.
  • Is attainable: The scope and goals of the project are feasible, and the budget and timeline are realistic.
