Welcome

UBC-CLI - Eamonn Watson YWCA Rooftop 2010The UBC-Community Learning Initiative (UBC-CLI) seeks to engage students, faculty, staff, and community in building their capacity to collaborate toward the resolution of complex community-based challenges.

The UBC-CLI works closely with faculty and staff across the UBC Vancouver Campus to integrate community-based experiential learning (CBEL), including community service learning and community-based research, into academic courses and to ensure that meaningful CBEL opportunities are available outside the context of coursework. At the same time, the UBC-CLI works with diverse community organizations, including non-profit and for-profit organizations as well as public schools, to engage students in short-term community-based projects and ongoing weekly placements that contribute to the achievement of community goals.

Community-Based Experiential Learning (CBEL)

Community-based experiential learning (CBEL) encompasses initiatives that provide students with opportunities to apply their discipline-specific knowledge toward the resolution of complex community-based challenges.
