Resources

Faculty are the main source of career information for university students, who look to professors and faculty-specific staff to learn about potential careers, job opportunities and professional guidance. UBC Career Services can help provide faculty and staff with the information and tools to answer student questions and direct them to the available resources.

On-campus presentations

Career Services regularly offers workshops and clinics for UBC students. Visit our Event Calendar for upcoming events.

Our career education team is also available to present in-class workshops on the following topics:

Job Search Strategies (2.2MB PPT)

Identify the hidden job market and investigate job search resources.

Resume Clinic (2.9MB PPT)

Target an application to a specific job posting and write an effective accomplishment statement.

Interviews with Impact (2.2MB PPT)

Identify commonly asked interview questions and develop strategies to answer them.

Networking 101 (4.5MB PPT)

Learn proper networking etiquette and overcome common fears that prevent people from networking effectively.

Finding Work On Campus (4.1MB PPT)

Identify on-campus employers and timelines to apply, as well as available resources from Career Services.

UBC faculty members and staff are welcome to use these workshop templates to incorporate career development into your classes, or contact us to discuss having a Career Educator present to your students.

Share our resources with students

Encourage students to attend a resume clinic. These 1-hour workshops (held several times each week) provide a short lesson on resume best practices and individual feedback.

Direct students to careers.ubc.ca. Online resources include:

Link to the careers.ubc.ca website from your faculty/program pages. Web buttons are available to direct students to careers.ubc.ca, resume resources and CareersOnline.

Let students know that Career Educators are available for one-on-one advising appointments to discuss their career development.

Host a majors event. We can work with you to customize a “What can I do with my major?” night to meet your department’s needs.

Request an in-class presentation. We can tailor a five- to fifteen-minute presentation on the career resources available to your students. Or, we can provide "train the trainer" sessions for faculty/staff in your department to empower them to deliver more comprehensive career information.

Support the culture of mentoring at UBC. Direct students to their faculty's mentoring programs, and consider becoming a mentor yourself.
