Work Study is for domestic undergraduate and graduate students (Canadian citizens and permanent residents).

Work Learn is for international undergraduate students.

UBC Okanagan students and faculty/staff should refer to the UBC Okanagan Work Study & Work Learn website.

Undergraduate students must: Be enrolled in at least 9 credits per term (Term 1 and/or Term 2). Be enrolled in at least 6 credits at any time during the Summer Session. Be full-time, degree-seeking students.

Students can contact their academic advisors to find out what's considered full-time registration in their faculty.

If you were registered full-time in both Term 1 and Term 2 of the previous academic year, you do not need summer courses to be eligible.

If you were not full-time in the previous academic year, you must be registered in full-time studies during the summer session.

Students must not have applied for May graduation and must be eligible for summer courses.

Graduate students: Must be paying full-time fees. International graduate students are not eligible for Work Learn funding.
Other student eligibility: Not applicable. Visiting and exchange students are not eligible for Work Learn.

Students must have a study permit that is valid for at least six months.

Students must be degree-seeking students and registered in one of the following faculties or departments:
  • Applied Science
  • Arts
  • Commerce & Business Administration
  • Education
  • Forestry
  • Human Kinetics
  • Land & Food Systems
  • Music
  • Science
  • Social Work

Employer must be: UBC faculty or staff members with UBC Payroll accounts.

Maximum hours students may work: 10 hours/week for a total of 150 hours/term or 300 hours for both terms 12 - 20 hours/week for a total of 300 hours 10 hours/week for a total of 150 hours/term or 300 hours for both terms 12 - 20 hours/week for a total of 300 hours
Other position conditions: Students may only accept one Work Study position in Winter Session and one in Summer Session. Students may only accept one Work Learn position in Winter Session and one in Summer Session.

Work must be on campus. "On campus" is defined as UBC Point Grey, UBC Robson Square, or a UBC-affiliated lab or research facility (e.g., Vancouver General Hospital).

For off-campus jobs outside of Work Learn, you must have an off-campus work permit.
