Employer information sessions

Employer information sessions give you the chance to discuss career opportunities with interested and qualified candidates in a session that's devoted to your organization.

  • Interact with candidates through a question-and-answer period
  • Leverage our expertise to target students from specific academic disciplines and levels of study
  • Reach potential co-op students, interns and new grads across all faculties

When you book your employer information session through UBC Career Services, we work on your behalf to plan and promote your session in partnership with faculties, co-op departments and student associations. We also take care of coordinating services such as room booking, audio-visual equipment and catering.

What's included with an employer information session

The $250.00 fee (+ HST) includes:

  • Classroom space set up with tables and chairs, located in proximity to target audience when possible
  • Basic audio-visual equipment (projector, screen, laptop)
  • Marketing and promotion of your information session to students
  • Day-of-event support, including directional signage
  • Member of Career Services staff available at event
  • One complimentary job posting on CareersOnline

Optional services

The following options can be added to your information session at additional cost:

  • Catering
  • On-site audio-visual technician
  • Conference room or space in certain locations such as the Student Union Building or Ponderosa Building

Requesting your employer information session



Information session requests for September 2012will open Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 9:00 am PST through our CareersOnline website  All dates for events are on a first-come, first-served basis.  Our policy is to not host organizations targeting the same groups of students on the same nights.

To request your information session:

  1. Log in to UBC CareersOnline.
  2. Click on the Fairs and Info Sessions tab on the blue navigation bar.
  3. Click the "Rnformation Session" utab."
  4. Select the Add New button at the bottom of the page.  
  5. Complete the form and click "Submit". The information provided in the form will be displayed to students.
  6. You will receive a follow-up message within 48 hours of your request submission. Confirmation of the location for your session may take up to 5 business days.

We require a minimum of two weeks notice when requesting an information session, in order to effectively promote your event.

Tips for planning your information session

Based on previous experience, we recommend the following guidelines your information sessions:

  • Date: Monday to Thursday
  • Time: 5:30 pm start time, lasting a maximum of two hours
  • Format: Students appreciate a combination of presentation, Q&A and networking

Please note that due to exam schedules, the following periods are not ideal for employer information sessions:

2010/2011 Academic Year

  • Term 1 exam period: December 7 to 21, 2010
  • Term 2 mid-term break: February 14 to 18, 2011
  • Term 2 exam period: April 11 to 28, 2011

2011/2012 Academic Year

  • Term 1 exam period: December 6 to 20, 2011
  • Term 2 mid-term break: February 20 to 24, 2012
  • Term 2 exam period: April 11 to 25, 2012
