really? campaign
The really? campaign is a comprehensive approach to violence preventions that draws on the power of peer and cultural influence in society. This model encourages all individuals, regardless of their gender, race, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status to take on leadership roles at the university and in their communities. Informed by social change theory, this model is one that encourages every individual to be a bystander in their day to day lives and empowers them to take an active role in promoting positive social change. Sexual assault prevention
Sexual assault is of significant concern on Canadian campuses and across Canadian communities. There are many ways that we can work to end sexual assault.
- Acknowledge that sexual assault happens and learn about the nature and extent of sexual assault.
- Question the offender's behaviour instead of questioning the survivor's behaviour.
- Challenge offensive behaviour such as sexist language, bragging about sexual conquests, or negative comments about anyone of any gender.
- Learn what is considered consent and what is not.
- Be open to hearing about the topic of sexual assault, and about people's experiences of sexual assault.
- Ask your partner if they want to engage in sexual activity and respect their answer.
- Talk about sexual activity.
- Raise your children to respect their future partners.
- Raise your children to be comfortable talking about sex in an open and healthy manner.
- Question what you hear in the media about sexual assault, and what the media is not telling you.
- Support the prosecution of perpetrators to the fullest extent.
- Volunteer at a sexual assault centre.
- Support your local sexual assault centre by donating to their programs.
- Examine how your own behaviour may contribute to the problem of sexual assault.
- Respect your fellow human beings.
