University Ambassadors for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games
Access & Diversity has partnered with TransLink and the UBC 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Secretariat to help provide access to visitors to UBC during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Access & Diversity's University Ambassadors are UBC students, faculty, and staff who are part of the Winter Games Volunteer Program, covering events held at UBC. These volunteers will greet visitors to campus and provide them with information that will enhance their experience.
University Ambassadors will also provide visitors with accessibility information and assistance. They will assist visitors with disabilities to and from venues and buses or shuttles.
Student orientations
A peer student orientation is held each fall for new and returning students. At these sessions, students meet each other and a panel of seasoned students share their strategies for success.
In 2010, this event will be held as part of the UBC-wide student orientation on the first day of classes. It will include an orientation about exam accommodations, notetaking, our study and social spaces, the tutoring program, and other Access & Diversity services.
Disability Liaison Network
Each faculty has appointed a disability liaison to Access & Diversity in keeping with Policy 73. The Disability Liaison Network was established in November 2008 to bring these disability liaisons together in discussion.
Meetings are held twice a year to discuss issues that are critical in creating an accessible and welcoming environment and providing disability-related accommodations, including the provision of alternate format materials, disability letters of accommodations, and exam accommodations.
